Scope & Content: A file containing letters and other papers relating to: issues surrounding the lease of the Calf of Man and non-payment of the rent by John Humfrey [also Humphrey and Humphreys]; appeals for legal cases; the gift of a stallion from the Duke of Atholl to the island for breeding purposes, and the search for small Manx horses for the Duke of Richmond; reports on the activities at the mines, mainly at Glenchass; and enquiries into whether it is feasible to raise a regiment on the island for the use of the Prince of Orange; half of the letters present are from Governor Patrick Lindesay [Lindsay], with many of them containing information on remittances sent to the Duke out of the Manx treasury, though these details are often omitted in the item-level descriptions.
