Scope & Content: A manuscript letter from solicitor, John Sharpe, reporting that the hearing between the Manx clergy and the Earl of Derby over the issue of [impropriate] tithes has been held up by James Makon's refusal to deliver papers in connection to the matter, due to an unsettled account of £82 for his services as solicitor to the clergy during the Earl's commission to the island [in 1747]; Sharpe requests that the Duke of Atholl contact Makon to resolve the issue; he also informs the Duke that Lord Derby has filed a cross bill against him regarding the ownership of the island.
