Letter from Alice Stevenson, London to Alexander Ross, Solicitor at Lane; with an accompanying petition
Date(s): 9 Aug-15 Aug 1750
Creator(s): Stevenson, Alice
Scope & Content: A manuscript letter from Alice Stevenson to the Duke of Atholl's Register of Appeals, Alexander Ross, informing him that she sent a letter to His Grace, in July [see MS 09707/2/284], requesting his protection prior to her visit to the Isle of Man [to claim the estate of her late husband, currently in the hands of her brother-in-law]; she now encloses a petition to be sent to the Duke, and hopes he will in turn issue an order to stop any further rents from the contested estate going to [Colonel] Stevenson, who has no means to be accountable for the rents he has already received; the petition itself sets out her case against [Colonel] Stevenson and requests that the rents of Balladoole be sequestrated and the damage being done to the property stopped until the case is finally decided.
