Scope & Content: A manuscript letter from the Comptroller, John Quayle [the Elder], enclosing a copy of the proceedings at the Isle of Man's Chancery Court, held 11 October, concerning Alice Stevenson's petition for the rents of Balladoole estate to be sequestrated until the legal dispute between herself and Colonel Stevenson is resolved, which has been refused; Quayle then informs the Duke of Atholl that Mrs. Stanley [widow of the late Receiver General] is selling parcels of land from her estate to raise the money she owes to the treasury [see MS 09707/2/321]; the letter concludes with news that some of the fishing boats have had success with catching herring, and that the miners at Laxey have a prospect of finding ore.
