Letter from Governor Basil Cochrane, Callander, Scotland to James Murray, 2nd Duke of Atholl; with an accompanying petition from the Vicar and Church Wardens of the Parish of Kirk Arbory
Date(s): 27 Jun 1754
Creator(s): Cochrane, Basil
Scope & Content: A manuscript letter from Governor Cochrane, informing the Duke of Atholl that he intends to set out for the Isle of Man, with arrangements for a boat to meet him at Kirkcudbright on 10 July; Cochrane goes on to discuss the accounts of the Water Bailiffs, stating the best method would be for them to send abstracts of the accounts every two months; accompanying the letter is a petition and memorial from the Vicar and Church Wardens of the Parish of Kirk Arbory, requesting permission to build a new chancel for the church, and for the Duke to provide some form of monetary assistance in this endeavour; Cochrane advises His Grace to ignore the petition, as it would only encourage others to ask him for money.
