Letter from Governor Basil Cochrane to James Murray, 2nd Duke of Atholl
Date(s): 8 May 1755
Creator(s): Cochrane, Basil
Scope & Content: A manuscript letter from Governor Cochrane, informing the Duke of Atholl that his letter took 10 days to arrive and he is unsure when this letter will be sent to His Grace, as boats are seldom travelling at the moment, due to the fears of the sailors being press-ganged by the man-of-wars that are constantly upon the coast of the Isle of Man; other topics covered in the letter include: the new Bishop of Sodor and Man; bills and other financial matters; the Balladoole case [between Alice Stevenson and Colonel Stevenson]; two falls suffered by the Controller [Comptroller, John Quayle the Elder]; and commissions for Manx civic offices.
