Scope & Content: A manuscript letter from John Quayle [the Elder] to the Duke of Atholl's Registrar of Appeals, Alexander Ross, concerning lawsuits against foreign debtors residing on the Isle of Man, and Quayle's objection to the guard room at Castle Rushen being used as a debtors' prison, as the Duke would need to treble the guard to protect the revenue offices; Quayle goes on to state that he will have a copy of the island's laws made for 'Mr Solicitor General' [William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield].
