Scope & Content: A manuscript letter from James McCrone, informing the Duke of Atholl that the House of Keys and Lieutenant Governor Smelt have got their way, with regards to the Highway Bill, which McCrone states the resulting Act will do little to preserve the Duke's rights; he goes on to declare that an Act of Parliament should be passed to dissolve the current House of Keys and a new mode of electing members instituted; moving away from this matter, McCrone reports that Mrs. Drumgold will accept £550 for the corner house; enclosed with the letter is a newspaper cutting of a leading article, dated 27 July 1822, contesting the Duke's use of the title 'Lord of the Isle of Man.'
