Scope & Content: A file of papers and correspondence revolving around issues and matters concerning the House of Keys and legislative activities, along with that body's relationship with the Duke of Atholl, in his capacity as both Governor of the Isle of Man and manorial lord; topics covered include: the resignation and appointment of members to the Keys; a resolution of that body to make all proposed laws public before seeking the royal assent; the Keys' reaction to the Commission of Inquiry established to investigate the Duke's rights on the island and the wider insular governance; the Keys' unwillingness to join a committee formed of them, the Governor and the Council, in order to draw up new legislation; proceedings of the Court of Tynwald; and the Keys' opposition to His Grace seeking compensation from the British government for the sale of the Atholl's lord proprietory rights and control over the Customs, back in 1765.
