Scope & Content: A manuscript copy of a protest sent by the Speaker of the House of Keys, John Taubman, on behalf of that body to the Commissioners of Inquiry [who are to investigate the Duke of Atholl's allegations concerning the infringement of his rights on the Isle of Man and the poor recompense received by his parents for the sale of the island in 1765], declaring that the Keys have appointed a committee to attend their proceedings, but it is to be understood that 'their compliance is not to be construed into any approval of the measure or to preclude them from taking any steps which they may hereafter be advised or judge expedient;' the original is dated 26 September 1791.
