Scope & Content: A manuscript transcript of a speech delivered by the Duke of Atholl at a Court of Tynwald on 7 June 1796; the speech covers the following: relief for the Isle of Man's trade; the need for a law against treason and perjury; the raising of money to improve the highways; the holding of courts at various centres; the controlling of strangers; the commuting of Church courts censures into fines; to make the new church at Douglas into a cathedral; to prevent the tarring of herring nets; the treatment of debtors; the establishment of an assize of bread; and the clarification of certain Acts passed in 1777 [a variation of this transcript is present; see MS 09707/9/1095].
