Scope & Content: Victor Surridge was a promising young rider for the Rudge team. One early morning in June 1911, when he was riding a practice lap of the TT Course, he took a corner too wide and ran into the roadside gully. He was thrown from his motorcycle and suffered a fatal head wound. A manager and mechanic with Rudge who were standing nearby carried Surridge to the nearby Glen Helen Hotel, where he had been staying. Two doctors were summoned, but they were unable to help him and at his inquest it was decided that he had died instantaneously. Aged only nineteen, Victor Surridge will be remembered as the first TT fatality.
