Administration / Biographical History: I0n 1873 Margaret Ann Clucas and Esther Jane Clucas of Ballavale, Santon, assigned to James Gell and John Carran lands and premises in Lezayre called Grest, Ballaclaughbane and the Meadow. The same day (5 September 1873) they executed a deed of appointment under which on the death of the last Miss Clucas the property was to be conveyed to the Vicar and Wardens of Lezayre, the rentes and profits to be applied towards the establishment and maintenance of a House of Industry, Alms House, or Hospital for poor persons of Andreas, Lezayre and Maughold under regulations to be made by assorted clergy from the north of the Island and the High-Bailiff of Ramsey.

Miss Esther Jane Clucas died on 18 May 1892, her sister having predeceased her. The Vicar and Wardens of Lezayre declined to accept the Trust and new Trustees were appointed in 1893. The original Trustees were Joshua Hughes-Games (Archdeacon), Henry Gratton White (Vicar of Maughold), John Corlett LaMothe (High-Bailiff) and Edward Craigie Corlett.

Under the printed rules (of about 1917) admission to Grest Cottage Home was to be made only by resolution of the General Committee and all persons proposed for admission were to have a written recommendation by two Committee members. Said Committee was to consist of the Rector of Andreas, the Vicars of Lezayre, Maughold and South Ramsey, the High-Bailiff of Ramsey and three persons appointed by the Wardens of Andreas, Lezayre and Maughold.
