Scope & Content: A member of the Dunlop racing dynasty, Northern Irishman Robert Dunlop was the younger brother of Joey and father of the racing brothers William and Michael.
Robert won the Newcomers' race on his first visit to the Isle of Man at the 1983 Manx Grand Prix (MGP). In 1989 he took his first Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) win in the 125cc Class with a new lap record 103.02mph. He won a total of five TT races.
In his career he won 159 races including 15 victories at the North West 200 and 9 at the Ulster Grand Prix.
On 15 May 2008 Robert Dunlop died after suffering severe chest injuries in a crash during a practice session at the North West 200. His son William was killed in a practice crash at Skerries in 2018. Michael continues to race at the TT.
