The dissertation discusses how the Celtic art revival of the 19th century influenced certain jewellery designs both as a reinforcement of the desire for a national identity in Ireland and Scotland and as an inspiration for designers in the arts and crafts movement and beyond. The dissertation focuses on the Scottish designer Alexander Ritchie influenced by artifacts on Iona and designs found within the Book of Kells and Archibald Knox designs for Liberty & Co interpretation of Celtic art.
