New Steam Packet steamer SS Viking berthed alongside Queen's Pier, Ramsey

Scope & Content: Viking' was built by Armstrong, Whitworth and Company of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and launched on 7 May 1905. On her maiden voyage from Liverpool on 26 June 1905 she travelled from the mouth of the Mersey to Douglas Head in 2 hours 53 minutes. In May 1907 she travelled from Fleetwood to Douglas in 2 hours 22 minutes. She principally undertook the Fleetwood route and could consume up to 60 tons of coal per day. The 'Viking' could accomodate 1,600 passengers.
