Kirk Braddan Open-Air Service and morning tour of the Island
Date(s): mid 20th century
Creator(s): unknown
Administration / Biographical History: In the 1920s, in response to increasing numbers of parishioners and tourists, Kirk Braddan resolved to move summer services from the old and new churches to a field west of the new church.
Outdoor services had begun in 1856 using the churchyard surrounding the church but when the Braddan halt was added to the Peel-Douglas railway line in 1897 numbers became too much even for the churchyard. A nearby field west of the new church was first used in 1913 and outdoor services continued here until 1986, well after mass tourism numbers had declined.
