Scope & Content: A manuscript letter from solicitor, James Makon, informing the Duke of Atholl that the rack-tenants of Bretherton Manor have agreed to contract with the Duke and pay the usual rents for a year; Makon also reports that he has set a date for the tenants to sign their contracts and pay rents in arrear, which they promise to do as long as His Grace signs a bond indemnifying them against the claims of Lord Ashburnham and his trustees; as such, Makon requests a bond or some other directions from the Duke.
