Scope & Content: Manuscript copies of three letters sent by the Duke of Atholl to Governor Cochrane: the first, original dated 3 October 1756, responds to three of Cochrane's letters from August and September, commenting on the herring fishing, the lead mine [near Port La Murray/Port St. Mary] and the naturalisation of foreign merchants; the second letter, original dated 3 November 1756, concerns Cochrane's health and attendance at Dunkeld for Christmas, as well as covering remittances; the final letter, original dated 12 November 1756, concerns the petitions from Messrs. Forbes, Ross, Black and Kennedy to be naturalised, and remittances paid to John Tarleton in exchange for bills.
