Scope & Content: A manuscript copy of a letter sent by the Duke of Atholl to the Duke of Newcastle, regarding the British Treasury's request to treat for the Isle of Man; His Grace states that he has no proposal to make on the matter, but he invites Lord Newcastle to send a proposal for the purchase of the island; accompanying the letter is a partial copy of a memorandum sent 1 November 1752, which states the Duke is 'not desirous' of selling the isle, but 'he will not oppose His Majesty's pleasure if a sale thereof shall be judged convenient to the publick.'
