Scope & Content: Papers covering the 4th Duke of Atholl's relationship with the Isle of Man, both as Governor of the island (1793 to 1830) and as manorial lord; his papers have been split into four main sections: correspondence; general papers, which consists of files and volumes that are either a mixture of both gubernatorial and manorial material or items that could not be delineated into one of those two categories; gubernatorial papers and manorial papers; due to the Duke's persistent attempts to ascertain what manorial rights the family held on the isle, along with pursue further monetary compensation for the Revestment in 1765, between 1779 and 1805, you also find material dating from the Earls of Derby era up to the 3rd Duke's and Duchess' period in his papers.
