Portrait of Isaac Vondy

Date made: early 19th century

Description: Full length portrait, water colour, of Isaac Vondy, Coxswain of the St George lifeboat, shown holding rope of the lifeboat with Tower of Refuge in background. Vondy saved Sir William Hillary's life at a rescue but when offered land as a reward refused it saying he did not save life for gain. He died, aged 73, in 1835. The donor is a descendent of Vondy's in the female line through Mylchreests.
