Red sandstone
Description: Sandstone in engraved metal mount inscribed "Point of Ayre/Coal Boring/Red Sandstone/995 foot/Deep/1896". Pale red, fine- to very fine-grained, well-sorted, laminated (cross bedded?) sandstone. Its location and depth at the Point of Ayre suggests it is Permian-Triassic in age.
Measurements: 24 cm long and 10 cm diameter
