Claghbane Bead

Date made: Viking: 800-1265

Description: Red, opaque with hollows that may have originally held applied decoration or enamel. No other beads were found during excavation, leading to interpretation of this find as a good luck charm, perhaps attached to the sword, spearhead or shield found nearby (1980-0398a, 0398b and 0398c). Alternatively, it may have been used as a device to tighten a strap.
