Description: Newspaper strike grant packet, issued by a trade union. Brown rectangular paper envelope with 'The Isle of Man Times' printed in black on front. Handwritten in blue ballpoint ink along top 'P. Parker £30 grant'. Top right hand corner of envelope torn.
The 1987 Isle of Man Newspapers strike resulted in the creation of the Manx Independent newspaper by the striking journalists. The title was later reabsorbed by Isle of Man Newspapers. Robert Kelly was editor at the time and found himself caught in the middle of the dispute, between the strikers and the group's owners.
