Knockaloe Internment Camp Turkish internee beadwork snake
Date made: 1917
Description: Knockaloe beadwork snake. Woven glass bead snake with white opaque bead underbelly with '1917' woven into the design; clear orange bead top with black, white and blue diamond pattern along the full length of the snake. Red bead eyes and yellow diamond pattern on nose, blue bead lips and 'A' pattern on chin, open woven cloth mouth with card connecting the jaws.
The function of the snake is thought to be that it is put around the user's neck whilst sewing and the open mouth is used as a pin cushion. Thought to be Turkish internees' work. 136 x 2.6 x 2.4 cm.
