Rushen Abbey Brooch

Date made: 1200s

Description: Annular with detached tongue. Small area of cloth adhering to tongue (Z spun, plain (tabby) weave). The brooch was found (as a pair with 2000-0013.4) on the pelvis of a skeleton. Scientific analysis of metal of the brooch (XRF) showed 91% copper, 8% tin, 1% lead; and of the pin, 100% copper.

Measurements: 3mm x 45 mm; pin 45mm length
