North Manx Volunteers officer's tunic
Date made: c.1809
Description: Second North Manx Volunteers uniform jacket, circa 1809. Red jacket with short tails, green facings and some gold lace. Possibly from an officer of the grenadier company (grenade on epaulets) but with Fencible buttons perhaps from his earlier uniform. [The buttons are flat discs, with three legs at the centre and a crown above. No text on the buttons so unlikely to be Fencibles.]
This object appears in the Manx Museum Trustees report of 31 December 1907 (item JB27) where it is described as a Royal Manx Fencibles tunic. However the colour of the facings and the lack of the word Fencibles on the buttons would seem to indicate that it is a Volunteers tunic.
