Rechabite Stamp
Description: Stamps
1]. Turned black painted wooden handle with oval brass plate plus rubber stamp. In raised letters around edge 'Mona Rushen Rechabite Tent No. 913. Colby Isle of Man.'
The Independent Order of Rechabites was formed in Salford on the 25th August, 1835; Eleven months later, a 'Tent' was opened in the Isle of Man.
The organisation promoted temperance (abstinence from alcohol). The movement gradually transformed into a financial institution which still exists, and still promotes abstinence. A branch may be known as a 'Tent', since the biblical Rechabites lived exclusively in tents.
