Rechabite Stamp
Description: Stamps.
2]. Similar to 1988-0193/1 but wooden block with rubber stamp. Single line of raised letters 'Mona Rushen Rechabite Tent'.
The Independent Order of Rechabites was formed in Salford on the 25th August, 1835; Eleven months later, a 'Tent' was opened in the Isle of Man.
The organisation promoted temperance (abstinence from alcohol). The movement gradually transformed into a financial institution which still exists, and still promotes abstinence. A branch may be known as a 'Tent', since the biblical Rechabites lived exclusively in tents.
