Snakes and Ladders

Artist: Hearne, Martin

Description: Snakes and Ladders was exhibited at the Manx Museum in "One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night" a temporary exhibition of works by Martin Hearne in 2005. It is a ceramic wall mounted sculpture, in mottled yellows and browns supporting a number of blue glazed symbols. These include a flexible ladder, clouds, a male and female figure, a bicycle, a dog, a bottle of wine and a wine glass.

Martin Hearne studied at the Douglas School of Art from 1966 to 1968, under Norman Sayle and Maurice Day. He went on to study painting at St. Martins School of Art, London from 1968-1971. After many years teaching art at various schools and colleges he became head of Ceramics at Bradford School of Art until retiring in 2015.
