Emotional Primer

Artist: Hearne, Martin

Description: Emotional Primer was exhibited at the Manx Museum in "One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night" a temporary exhibition of works by Martin Hearne in 2005. It is a ceramic wall mounted sculpture, glazed in green with a number of symbols set in relief across the grid. Some symbols are taken from bland computer graphics such as the curser arrow or the pallet of colours. A series of faces showing different expressions are taken from an art instruction manual. Pink, white yellow and blue glazes have been used to highlight the symbols across the green base grid.

Martin Hearne studied at the Douglas School of Art from 1966 to 1968, under Norman Sayle and Maurice Day. He went on to study painting at St. Martins School of Art, London from 1968-1971. After many years teaching art at various schools and colleges he became head of Ceramics at Bradford School of Art until retiring in 2015.
