Levis 250cc motorcycle
Date made: 1921
Description: 1921 250cc Levis motorcycle registration 3540MN. Documents in Manx National Heritage archives show this to have originally been registered as MN1570, to a William Kneen, California, St Johns. Machine is further attributed to Dr C.H. Hopwood who used it in practice for the 1922 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) races. Hopwood was from Stockport.
Hopwood finished 8th in the 1922 Lightweight race aboard a Levis so the possibility exists that he also used this machine in the race.
The 1922 TT introduced a new race for 250 cc motorcycles called the Lightweight TT, to be run concurrently with the already established Junior 350 cc. over a distance of 188.75 miles (5 laps).
