Greeba Mountain

Date made: c.1900-1933

Artist: Knox, Archibald

Description: A bleak and minimalist watercolour landscape by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) depicting the hills above Greeba, in the centre of the Isle of Man. As well as capturing the atmospheric cloud formations, he has also highlighted the 'purple-headed mountains' and the Manx hills ablaze with various purple heathers. The artist is said to have painted his watercolour scenes in a few hours or less, but that he would also sit for hours waiting for the exact light and cloud formations that he wanted to paint.
