Schooner, Castletown Harbour
Date made: c.1900-1933
Artist: Knox, Archibald
Description: A watercolour by Archibald Knox (1864-1933) depicting a vessel in Castletown harbour, tied up on the quayside by the Umber house with Bridge House and the footbridge across the harbour entrance in the background. Castletown had been a major trading centre and originally the Island's capital, but by the early 20th century its commercial importance had declined although a variety of fishing and trading vessels could still be seen in its harbour, including some of the last vessels sailing under sail.
