Derby Haven and Langness

Date made: 10 September 1815

Description: “Bay of Derby and port: cold, mean, comfortless - a large mansion tenanted by a Cumberland farmer - walk and gateways desolate.” (Dorothy Wordsworth, Journal of a Tour in the Isle of Man 1828, M 10561)

On the sketch is written: "Derbyhaven, Langness Point, Bay and Town of Castletown, Barrow Head and part of the Mull Hills. Taken from above the farm of Bala[oan?] 5 miles distant from Castletown. Will Latham, 10 September 1815."

Sketch by Captain William Latham of Liverpool. In July 1815 Captain William Latham made a tour of the Isle of Man with Mr William Gerard Walmesley Esq of Liverpool, Mr James Leigh of Liverpool and Mr Ralph Greenough of Wigan. Latham made many sketches of the Island during his visit.
