Derby Fort
Date made: 12 September 1815
Description: "This fortress is in a dilapidated state but it is yet sufficiently strong to bear s light tower upon its east side in the which (as before named) a lamp is placed to warn the fishermen during the Herring season." On the sketch is written: "Sketch of an ancient Fort situated on St Michael's Island commanding the passage into Derbyhaven. The date over the entrance into the Fort is 1667. Walls 8 ft thick. Will Latham, 12 September 1815."
Sketch by Captain William Latham of Liverpool. In July 1815 Captain William Latham made a tour of the Isle of Man with Mr William Gerard Walmesley Esq of Liverpool, Mr James Leigh of Liverpool and Mr Ralph Greenough of Wigan. Latham made many sketches of the Island during his visit.
