Fossil shark's tooth
Description: Fossil tooth of shark, of early Tertiary period [identified as probably 'Carcharodon' by British Museum 1929]. Greyish black, cherty, moderately well-preserved. Found in bank of river Silverburn about a mile north of Castletown, after erosion of the river bank of a alluvial driwater, March 1929. Presumably a glacially transported fossil.
Measurements: Length 2 3/4 inch at longest edge, width 15/8 inch tapering to a rounded point 3/8 inch
