Ballateare Viking Burial Spearhead

Date made: Viking

Description: This is complete, although corroded and encrusted. The socket is circular in section and has traces of wooden shaft, originally attached by six copper alloy rivets, with one example surviving. There are also traces of inlaid wire decoration and incised triangle decoration at the base of the socket. There is a central ridge on both sides of the blade.

This spearhead was mostly imported from Norway.
