Ashtray from Derek Minter
Date made: late 20th century
Description: An ashtray consisting of a small ceramic dish within a miniature rubber tyre, with transfer printed image of 1960s Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) racer Derek Minter. Minter had the ashtray made and presented it to Stan Burden (the donor's late husband) who was one of Minter's mechanics/pit crew. The image differs slightly from that on coffee set 2018-0019 from the same source, so may be slightly earlier?
Minter was the first rider of a British single cylinder machine (Norton) to lap the TT Course at over 100mph. He won the 1962 250cc Lightweight TT race.
