Biography: Fred Quysner and his brother were devout Lutherans and pacifists, and left Germany in the nineteenth century to avoid being conscripted into the Prussian army. They settled in Blackburn, Lancashire and Fred worked as a butcher with his own business. With the outbreak of war the brothers were arrested as enemy aliens and sent to Knockaloe Camp on the Isle of Man. After the war, Fred Quysner returned to Lancashire, where he continued to work in the meat trade until his death in 1954. (Image ref: PG/14506).
