Biography: William Williamson was a member of the Laxey grocery family. Prior to the First World War he had emigrated to Canada, but upon the outbreak of war he volunteered to join the Canadian Army Medical Corps. He travelled with the Canadian Expeditionary Force to Europe, and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery as a stretcher bearer at the Battle of the Somme. He was killed in action in April 1917.
