Biography: George Percival Cain was the son of Mr W. Cain, ex-Inspector of police, of Malew Street, Castletown. After some time spent working in a drapery shop in Castletown, George left the Island to work for Vickers at their naval construction works in Barrow-in-Furness. He worked on the construction of several warships, but with the outbreak of war went to sea as an Engineer-Steward. He was aboard the supply ship Santa Margherita when he died of disease on 1 September 1916. (Image ref: PG/13743/14).
