Biography: Lewis Triyes Turnbull was born at Holyhead, Anglesey. He joined the Royal Navy with the rank of Boy aged 16 in 1898. He was discharged following the completion of his term of engagement in 1912, and became a postman on the Isle of Man. However he remained a member of the Royal Fleet Reserve, and with the outbreak of war in August 1914 he was recalled to the Royal Navy. He was posted initially to HMS Majestic, but spent most of the war aboard HMS Erin, a dreadnought battleship which took part in the Battle of Jutland. Turnbull died in 1921, in Douglas.
