Biography: Robert Edward Gelling of Ramsey was a baker, employed by Mr R.E. Quayle. He joined the army in 1917, and was posted to the 12th battalion King's Liverpool Regiment. He had been in France just a few months when he was killed in action, on 20 November 1917, at the Battle of Cambrai. He was 33, and left a widow and young son. (Image ref: PG/14475/4).
