Biography: First World War Soldier. 'No. 8616. Private. 4 King's Liverpool Reg't. Barrack St. Class & Club. Special Reservist. Reported Nov. 18. At Kinghorn Dec. 9. Asked for loan of 10/- (10 shillings) to return home and got it. Jan. Feb furlough. Had a long talk told of return of "Lion" etc. In France in May. Soon wounded. in 16 General Hospital France Home Aug. 1. Reported Aug. 10 but could not get address. At Military Hospital Fleetwood.. Dec. 14. C. Co. No 6 Camp. Convalescent Camp. Kimmel (sic) Park nr. Rhyl. L. Corp. (Lance Corporal) Said to be married June. Discharged.' Information received from Alan Haydock on 7/11/2021:
My Grandfather, married Florence Emma Jones in Seaforth, Liverpool. My Mother, Eileen Edna was their eldest child, b.1916. her brother was Leonard, b.1919(?). George worked in fruit trade warehouses in Liverpool from 1918 until about 1937, but spent some time most Summers with his family back on the IOM as a horse tram conductor with his brother Stanley, who was a resident as driver. Stanley drove buses for Douglas Corporation in Winter. George worked on Liverpool Docks throughout WW2 until his retirement in 1959. He died in November 1975.
