Record type: Motorsport Biographies
Biography: Aged 31, James Baughn, of Tottenham, London N.W.15, raced in the Isle of Man for the first time, in 1957, but he had had three years experience of short circuit work and had been very successful, having won events on an M.V. at Abardare Park, Brands Hatch, Crystal Palace, Silverstone and Thruxton. He wrote: "Have raced in all classes at various short circuits in England, but have entered mostly in the two Lightweight classes. Rode the R.E.G. three times in 1956 when it was first built and won the lightweight race at Brands Hatch in October on it." In 1957 he was 14th in the Lightweight T.T. on a Guzzi, winning a Bronze Replica, but was a non-starter in the 125 c.c. races at Brands Hatch, Castle Combe, Silverstone and Thruxtone.
In 1958 he was 11th in the 125 c.c. T.T. on his E.M.C., and won a Finishers Award, whilst in the Thruxton meeting in March, 1959, he was second in the "125". Unluckily he had to retire on the first lap of last year's 125 c.c. T.T. He is entered for this year's "125" by Joseph Ehrlich. (TT Special, 13 June 1960, p.8.)
