Biography: G. Lee Evans was a factory rider for the Hendee Manufacturing Company based in Springfield, Massachusetts. The company first entered its Indian machines in the TT Races in 1909 with their technologically advanced v-twin machines that had a two speed transmission and chain drive. The experienced Harry Collier on a twin cylinder Matchless led the race from start to finish; with Evans a very creditable second; the first American to stand on the TT rostrum.
