Biography: Mount: Sidecar – Norton.

Age 36, Fred Hanks from Erdington, Birmingham, is a transport manager. He first appeared in the Sidecar T.T. in 1955, after a great deal of short circuit experience.

Fred claims that the time taken up in racing activities leaves him little time for hobbies, and he declares that he has not even visited a cinema for some years!

Last season he collected a win and a second place at Cadwell and did well at Silverstone and elsewhere.

Passengered by E. Dorman, Fred enjoyed a good race in the Island last year – he finished seventh at 63.47 m.p.h. Apart from Hillebrand’s winning B.M.W., Fred’s Matchless outfit was the only “twin” to gain a placing – all the others were Nortons!

Age 38, Fred Hanks is a motor cycle dealer and comes from Erdington, Birmingham. He has ridden in the Dutch TT, the Belgian Grand Prix, the Ulster, and many other races and has competed in three Sidecar TT's. His first was the 1955 event, when he finished seventh, with a Silver Replica ,and 1956 saw exactly the same result. He had bad luck, however, in 1957, retiring on the sixth lap with a broken valve, and he did not ride in last year's Sidecar TT.
