Age 41, a motor mechanic, of Sydney, New South Wales, Harry Hinton has been racing for over 20 years and has had a vast number of successes in Australia.

In 1948 he won the Senior and Junior classes of the Victoria Grand Prix on Nortons, and the Junior and Lightweight classes of the Victoria T.T., the Junior on a Norton and the Lightweight on a B.S.A. He also won both Junior and Senior classes of the Australian T.T.

His first experience of the Island was in 1949, but before coming over he had four more big wins “down under” – the Junior and Senior of the Victorian Grand Prix and the Junior and Lightweight of the New South Wales Grand Prix. In the T.T. itself, Norton mounted, he finished fifteenth in the junior at 78.97 and ninth in the Senior at 81.78, winning first-class replicas in both events.

Going on to the Continent he finished tenth in the 350 class of the Dutch T.T. and then a fortnight later on the Circuit de Gedinne dead-heated for the winning place in the 500 class with his fellow countryman, George Morrison. In the Ulster Grand Prix a month later, he finished seventh in the Junior race at 86.34 m.p.h.

On a “try-out” trip in the 1950 North-West “200” he finished third in the 500 c.c. class to Artie Bell and Johnnie Lockett.

In the T.T. races the following month, again riding Nortons, he finished tenth in both Junior and Senior events, at 81.99 and 85.94 m.p.h. respectively, winning first-class replicas in both.

After the T.T., he competed in each of the remaining five events which counted for the World Championship. In the “'Belgian” he was eleventh in the 350 and sixth in the 500 event, averaging 98.83 in the latter, whilst in the “Dutch” he was sixth in the 350 class and third in the 500, being the rider of the first British motor-cycle to finish. He was seventh in the Swiss 350 class, but was third again in the 350 class of the two last events of the season, the “'Ulster”' and the Grand Prix des Nations at Monza.
In the latter event he made fastest lap at 97.15 m.p.h., being 1 2/5-th seconds only behind the winner. Geoff Duke, and 2/5th of a second only behind the second man, Les Graham.

He had the misfortune to crash in Monday's Junior race when running second. Non-starter in Senior.
